Relaxation Massage

To help de-stress, and to take time out from our busy and demanding lifestyles, choose a relaxing massage to melt your worries away.  Some benefits of the Relaxation Massage include improved sleep, more energy, boost immunity, clarity of mind and an improved sense of wellbeing.

Deep Tissue Massage

For those looking for deeper and more specific work to target chronic complaints.
As well as the already mentioned benefits, Deep Tissue Massage can help relieve pain and restore normal movement so you can turn your head again to see oncoming traffic, or sit in front of your computer without the aching shoulders.

Lymphatic Drainage

There are a shortage of therapists who can provide this specialised service in the Greater Wellington region. Lymphatic Drainage is useful for treating Venous Reflux (more commonly referred to as varicose veins), post surgery rehabilitation or with cancer sufferers, with 60% of clients being breast cancer survivors with same side arm swelling.  Lymphatic Drainage accelerates reduction of oedema and minimises the acute pain of more chronic pain syndrome.

Pregnancy Massage

Wonderfully relaxing and pampering, Pregnancy Massage can assist with the body's changes, improving the flow of oxygen and nutrients to Mum and bub, as well as helping Mum regain energy, strength and balance.  With the aid of specially designed pregnancy cushions, it is a chance to lie on one's tummy again - something often missed with the growing belly.

Sports Massage

Focused on massaging the muscles relevant to the training or event, sports massage enhances performance, reduces injury risk, warms up the tissues pre event, and speeds recovery post event so there is less pain and stiffness, and quicker readiness for the next goal.

Cross Friction Massage

The purpose of deep friction massage is to maintain the mobility within the soft tissue structures of ligament, tendon, and muscle and prevent adherent scars from forming. The massage is deep and must be applied transversely to the specific tissue involved unlike the superficial massage given in the longitudinal direction parallel to the vessels which enhances circulation and return of fluids. This technique includes manual mobilisation of muscles and joints.

Hot Stone Massage

Relaxing the body at its deepest level, Hot Stone Massage has a profound effect on the body, mind and spirit.  Warm stones are placed on the body, and as you are massaged with them you feel the stress melt away.

30 minutes, back - $55
60 minutes - $95
90 minutes, full body - $125

Reflexology

Applying appropriate pressure to specific reflex points on the feet (these points correspond to different body organs and systems).  Creates a beneficial effect on a person's general health and wellbeing.  This also brings about a sense of relaxation while stimulating the body's own healing processes.

Acupressure Massage

Acupressure Massage uses no needles but follows the same meridian lines that acupuncture does to release body energy blockages.  Where there is energy flow, there is wellness and balance in the body.  When blockages occur, so to can disease and dysfunction.  Many of these painful blockages stem from the spine or sacroiliac joint, and so releasing the pressure at this point will often relieve other problems - a stiff joint for example.

By using a metal wand over the skin's meridian lines, the energy can flow again to allow the body to repair the previously undersupplied areas.

Reiki

An established and proven Japanese technique for relaxation and promoting healing.  Can be used in conjunction with another treatment, or independently.

Kinesiology

Body Mind Spirit Wellbeing offers two kinds of Kinesiology, the taping method and touch for health.

The Kinesiology taping method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints.  It does this without restricting the body's range of motion as well as providing extended soft-tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.

The touch for health method uses muscle monitoring and testing.  Benefits are attained by balancing the 14 acupuncture meridian energy, identifying foods that raise the body's energy, reducing stress and pain, enhancing physical performance, improving vision, sensory input and brain function, and by improving posture, co-ordination and learning difficulties.

Ortho-bionomy

A gentle, non-invasive body therapy, ortho-bionomy is highly effective at working with acute or chronic pain or stress caused through accidents, injuries or postural and structural imbalances.  Ortho-bionomy is sometimes called a self-corrective or self-healing technique, because it helps the body to correct itself by working with the innate reflexes of the body.

Russian cupping

Recently highlighted in the 2016 Olympics, cupping pulls blood to a region to stimulate healing.  It is effective at stretching tight fascia and muscles.  Cupping helps the tissue develop new blood flow and causes anti-inflammatory chemicals in the body.  Cupping is generally painless and many say is more effective than massage for muscle problems.  The cup may be left in place, or moved around as a massage.

Marnitz reflexology massage

Marnitz Therapy, also known as Schlüsselzonenmassage (Key zone massage) was developed in Germany by Dr. Harry Marnitz.  In contrast to prevailing symptom-oriented soft tissue therapies, Marnitz utilised knowledge of neuro-physiological functional chains in his technique to create a holistic, findings-based therapeutic method.

Marnitz observed that an injury, be it from trauma or strain, frequently leads to a reaction in the entire nerve segment of the primary injury site.  This is how a herniated disk in the lumbar spine can cause dysfunction along the corresponding nerve pathway (pain in the leg, hip or buttocks) as well as consequences in the thoracic and cervical spine.  Marnitz calls these "peripheral reflex zones" that, left untreated, can prevent full rehabilitation.  It is a deep tissue technique using circular motions, but safe for lymphedema sufferers.
